It is vulnerable to frost, so it is not advised to plant it too early. It does best in full sun, but can handle some shade. Plot Screen loves hot humid weather so July/August is when you will see your fastest growth. It is best if planted just before a rain.

Frigid Forage Pro Tip: Have fields prepared and ready to go, and then watch the weather forecast.

How To Plant A Food Plot Screen

Our food plot screen seed blend prefers a moist, but well drained heavier soil. However, it will grow in most soils given proper sunlight, nutrients, and moisture.

Condition the soil with a roto-tiller, disc, chisel plow, or similar equipment to a depth of about 6” to prepare a good seed bed.

Weed control prior to planting is always a good idea. It will reduce nutrient stealing weeds from competing with your plot. However, our food plot screen seed blend typically grows thick enough and tall enough to crowd out most weeds. Therefore, you may be able to get by without spraying for weed with our blend compared to others.

Spread fertilizer

The soil should be fertile with a pH of 5.5 to 7.5. If you are unsure of your soils fertility or pH, have your soil tested. Your local farm coop or fertilizer dealer can usually help with this.

A good fertilizer recommendation is 300-400 lbs/acre of 19-19-19. Like corn, our food plot screen blend loves nitrogen. Therefore, any fertilizer you use should have a relatively high first number. Urea (46-0-0) can be added after about 1 month to really give it a boost.

If you see your plants turning light green and/or yellow, it is lacking nitrogen.

Broadcast or drill at roughly 15 lbs/acre. Do not over-seed as planting too thick will only result in stunted plants.
